BNAP

BACK & NECK ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

DO YOU HAVE BACK OR NECK PAIN?

Workability has developed a functional rehabilitation program used by accredited physiotherapists, occupational therapists and doctors to help you take back the control over your pain and your activities, so that you can get back to the life you want.

We call it BNAP - the Back & Neck Assistance Program. BNAP is an evidence based and active rehabilitation program aimed to help patients living with chronic back and neck pain to improves function, treat the cause of their pain and improve their quality of life.

WHAT BENEFITS COULD YOU EXPECT?

  • You will receive a comprehensive Initial assessment from a physiotherapist, a doctor, and possibly an occupational therapist.

  • A Physiotherapist will work with you to set treatment goals.

  • The therapist will tailor a Personalised Treatment Plan including structured exercise and a home program.

  • You will be equipped with pain management strategies.

  • Your Workability Case Coordinator will support you telephonically before, during, as well as after completion of the program.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

This program will not cost you anything as the funds will come out of the risk portion of your medical aid fund and not out of your day to day benefits.

It is important that you complete the program to ensure that this cost is not wasted and that you get optimal benefit from the program.

HOW DOES THE BNAP PROGRAM WORK?

Step 1

You will be contacted by a Workability by a case manager who are non- treating physiotherapists and occupational therapists by background, who will review and monitor your progress until the completion of your treatment.

Step 2

You will be assessed by the local Workability network physiotherapist who will understand your medical history and explain the possible cause of the pain as well as the program plans to you.

Step 3

An active treatment plan will be put together for you by the rehabilitation team and you will be requested to sign the patient contract committing you to the prescribed treatment.

Sessions consist of active individual or group exercise sessions which may be combined with individual or group information sessions.
These programs can range from 1 to 6 weeks dependent on your needs and your goals.

Step 4

When active rehabilitation has been completed, you will be discharged with a home exercise program and the case manager will continue to monitor your goal achievement and progress. Should you require further active treatment, they will facilitate re-entry into further active rehabilitation.

WRAP

WORK REHABILITATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

WRAP is an active rehabilitation program for patients who have sustained an injury at work, with the aim of getting them back to work and life in the shortest time possible.

The WRAP program is driven by physio and occupational therapist who are Injured on Duty (IOD) specialist and are equipped to assess your injury as well as understand if your injury will have an impact on your ability to work and / or cope at home.

WHAT DOES THE WRAP PROGRAM COVER?

The program takes a comprehensive and holistic approach to pain and provides individualised treatment to patients. The cost of this program is free to patients who are employed and their employers are registered with Workman's Compensation.

HOW DOES THE WRAP PROGRAM WORK?

Step 1

Once you are injured at work you will need to go to your local doctor (GP) who will refer you to your nearest Workability Rehab Unit.

Step 2

When you get to the Workability Rehab Unit you will be asked to complete some forms at the front desk and you will then be assessed by a physiotherapist.

Step 3

Your physiotherapist will understand your medical history and explain the possible cause of the pain as well as the program plans to you. This plan will include if you need further treatment and if so what format this will take.

The physiotherapist may ask the occupational therapist to assess you further to see what aspects of work you may struggle with and if any accommodations are needed to help get you back to work safely. The therapists will liaise with your work to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Step 4

As part of the WRAP program you will be assigned a Workability case manager who will be your guide to ensure you get the correct treatment at the correct time in their recovery process and get back to work and life in the shortest time possible.
